It's 'Our Moment Our Movement': Anti-Racism Forum Set Foundation for 2023 Campaign Launch

BE | December 2022 | Issue No. 1

LCS and Toronto & York Region Labour Council hosted the Anti-Racism Forum on October 26, 2022, which focused on addressing anti-racism transformational change within the collective bargaining process, member-to-member racism, and constitutional change within unions and the broader Labour movement. What changes can we make from the inside out?

This ambitious endeavour brought together change makers to examine their own unions and the labour movement as a whole, as well as brainstorm steps they can take to implement action. Working with seasoned activists and leaders within the labour movement, Jojo Geronimo, Carol Wall and Arnold Minors, the forum provided invaluable insight for the development of an anti-racism campaign to launch in 2023.

What makes this different from any other campaign?

We’re recognizing that change starts from the inside out and we wanted to take an honest approach to seeing where we could improve as a movement. By focusing on anti-racism transformational change within:

  • the collective bargaining process,
  • member-to-member racism, and
  • constitutional change within unions,

we are looking at concrete steps and examples of how to implement real change. This is our moment, and our movement.

Stay tuned for campaign updates in 2023.
