Position: United Way Services Coordinator
Labour Community Services (LCS) is currently seeking a United Way Toronto Coordinator. This is a permanent full-time position reporting to the Executive Director of LCS. This position has joint program responsibility to LCS and United Way Toronto (UWT). The United Way Toronto Coordinator facilitates work among Toronto and York Region Labour Council’s affiliated unions, United Way Toronto, the Canadian Labour Congress, United Way-Centraide, community agencies and organizations with the goal of building stronger and healthier communities.
Basic Functions:
• To assist and enhance the United Way Toronto campaigns
• To act as a liaison between Labour and United Way Toronto
• To collaborate with United Way Toronto staff in implementing their strategic directions
Major Responsibilities include:
• Maintaining and growing labour support for United Way Toronto
• Providing practical support to United Way Toronto staff who carry out campaign and allocations functions
• Working with United Way Toronto to plan, develop and enhance joint union/management fundraising campaigns in unionized workplaces
• Recruiting, training, and supporting labour volunteers to act as speakers, allocations, and/or campaign volunteers
• Coordinating fundraising campaigns in union offices across Toronto
• Building understanding between organized Labour and United Way Toronto on their distinct roles within the community
• Working with United Way Toronto staff to ensure organized labours’ participation and point of view is represented in the development of departmental goals, plans and procedures
• Acting as an advocate of the labour/United Way partnership for the well being of our community
• Acting as a labour speaker within workplace fundraising campaigns
• Providing educational services, as required
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education, and/or equivalent experience
• Commitment to both the labour and United Way movements
• Knowledge of the labour movement’s history, structure and philosophy
• A good understanding of the mission and work of United Way of Toronto
• Knowledge of United Way Toronto fundraising and allocations procedures
• Able to work from an anti-oppression framework
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good computer skills on MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook)
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of labour and community members
• Significant experience with advocacy, volunteer management and the voluntary sector
• Excellent communication (written and oral)
• Ability to work under pressure and ability to prioritize
• Superior project and time management skills
• Willingness to have a flexible work schedule including early morning, late evening, week-ends, and some out of town travel
• Innovative, flexible, take initiative and strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated training and facilitation skills in the area of popular education
• The successful applicant must have the ability to balance and respond to varying requests and requirements
Terms of Employment:
• The United Way Services Coordinator is accountable and reports to the Executive Director of LCS
• This is a full-time permanent position in the bargaining unit of the USW 8300
• Competitive salary and an comprehensive benefits package
• Must have valid driver’s license, use of a car on a regular basis and appropriate liability insurance
